GIFT EVENING
Miss Evelyn. Melville, whose mari iage takes place shortly, was the guest of honour at an exceedingly enjoyable gift evening arranged by the bt. Andrew’s senior Young Women’s Bible Clasrf and held in the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Hall on Tuesday evening. There were over 70 friends present, who were kept happily occupied with amusing competitions and games. Following a well-arranged programme with Mr. D. Weir acting as Master of Ceremonies, Miss W. Russell, on behalf of the Senior Bible Class, asked Mtss Melville to accept a large picture as a token of love from her fellow-mem-bers. Miss Russell referred to the work done by the guest of honour during thu number of years she had been connected with the church and of her cheery disposition. The minister, Rev. Hugh Boggs, also paid tribute to Miss Melville’s work and popularity with the church people, and he asked her to accept the many gifts brought along to stock the kitchen of her future hoihe- Mr. Wall, the prospective bridegroom, thanked the church people for the fine collection of parcels. He then proceeded to open them and hand the contents to his fiancee. The notes accompanying the gifts were read aloud and “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows" was afterwards heartily sung.
Adding to the evening’s enjoyment was th« folk dancing by the junior girls, a duet by Messrs- Tizard and quartette by Messrs. Tizard, Kidd and Walker (2). Mrs. Tizard and Miss Walker accompanied the singers and music for the folk dancing, games, etc., was played by Misses Brailsford and Keyes. An especially nice supper was handed round and the party was brought to a close by the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” Miss Melville was also the recipient of a piece of crystal from the Presbyterian District Committee, and wa<s entertained at a beach party during the week.
