WANGANUI ROAD AMATEURS NOTES AND COMMENTS (By “Lap-Taker.”) The sixh race of the Wanganui Amateur Road Cycling Club’s season, was conducted over a course of 16 miles on Saturday afternoon. The starting was at the Royal Hotel and contestants followed the Mam South Road to the VVarrangate Road turning and then returned to finish at the boundary line near Hotel Braeburn. Conditions were ideal and the excellent time of 15min. was put up by ROrlowski, who returned the fastest time. His co-markers, L. Anderson, LGeorgetti and T. Pidwell, teamed well, working hard all the way to keep away from the scratch men, W. Pidwell and Constantine, who were disappointing on the day. Rr. Orlowski came out at the finish with his usual well-judged effort to win from L. Anderson, Georgetti b-eing third. A. Forsyth, starting off Gmins., led the field the entire distance, being the only rider the 50sec. bunch failed to head off. He finished strongly, putting up an excellent performance considering that lie rode unpaced throughout. I'he derailed results were as follows: —A. Forsyth 1, R. Orlowski 2, LAnderson 3, L. Georgetti 4. Fastest times were:—R. Orlowski (JU.-yc.) 40min. lusec., 1; L. Anderson (aOsec.), 40min. 15 1-uscc., 2; L. Georgetti (50sec.), 4Umin. 15 2-ssec., 3. Sullivan 8, I. Peters 9, T. Pidwell 6, K. Speak 5, A. Forsyth 5, M- Walsh 3, C. Loveridge 1. G. Constantine leads for honours in the championship fastest time sash with 11 points, W. Pidwell being second with 7 points. It was pleasing to note that the club welcomed back a few members who have not previously ridden this season. It is to be hoped that the membership trill not dwindle as the larger races appear, the success of the club depending entirely on the number of riders competing. A large field will pay its own expenses easily but small musters are often in evidence resulting in a dead loss for the club.
