PATEA

VALEDICTORY Mr Terry Tuohy was honoured at a farewell social in the Foresters’ Hall last Tuesday night by the Patea Tennis Club. Weather conditions were so bad that the attendance was not as large as anticipated, and many apologies were received. Those present, however, spent a very enjoyable time •lancing in the hall, where a large log fire made the atmosphere cosy. Streamers and greenery transformed the walls. Mr A. Gilmore provided music for the dancing and extras were-played by Mr Price. Following supper, which was served by members of the ladies’ committee, Mr T. E. Roberts, as president of the club, spoke of the sincere regret felt by members at losing Mr Tuohy. He had been a most ‘capable secretary, doing all he could in a quiet manner. His position as club captain and top man of the ladder had also helped the members. Mr Roberts expressed the hope that Mr Tuohy’s own tennis would go on improving. Air Roberts asked him to accept a steelshafted brassey golf club as a token of their appreciation of his w r ork. (Cheers).. Mr Tuohy thanked all for their gift and kind wishes. He said ho was very sorry to leave Patea. “For He’s a Jollv Good Follow” and “Auld Lang Syne” concluded the evening.

A.A.A. SECRETARY HONOURED Officials and members of the Patoa Amateur Athletic Association mot, last Monday to honour Air Gordon Fraser on his recent marriage. Members spoke of the. splendid work accomplished by him as secretary for the association. He had done a great deal of spadework in establishing the success of the association’s annual athletic sports meeting. Air A. T. Christensen, as patron of the association, presented Air Fraser with a silver cakestand, as a token of appreciation and the members’ good wishes for his happiness in his married life. Air Fraser suitably responded. At the clubhouse last week-end, Air Fraser was the recipient of another presentation, this time from the members of the Patea Men’s Golf Club. Air C. R. Honoyfield, as president, spoke ■>f Air Fraser’s keenness in golf, and they were sorrv he was not playing this season. He had alwavs been one of the lower handicap players, and promising in his style. As a. token of their hopes for his happiness, Air Honoyfield presented Air Fraser with a crystal water jug.
