MARTON DISTRICT NURSE.
The annual meeting of the Alarton District Nursing League was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Luesdav afternoon. His Worship the Mayor (Mr. F. Purnell) presided. There were present the following ladies: Aliss Jefferson, Mrs. 11. Galpin. Airs. 11. Sutcliffe Airs. Gower. Airs. Dexter, -Mrs. Hempieman, Mrs. T. Barton, Airs. I-. Purnell and Airs. A. H. Bill. The report and balance-sheet as presented by Mrs. Bill (secretary) on behalf of the committee were adopted. The report dealt with the activuties of the local committee working in conjunction with the executive of the
Wanganui Hospital Board in the very successful effort to make the services of the district nurse of great value to the district. Aliss Woolmer was very highly complimented on her splendid work. Her duties included visits to the Alaori settlements at Rata, Parewanui and Turakina. In all the nurse paid no less than 3623 visits during the year. Hearty votes of thanks were due to all those friends who gave fruit, vegetables, baby clothes, linen, etc., for distribution by the nurse on her rounds. Thanks were also extended to Mr. Humphrey for the use of premises for the annual “slhop,” and to willing helpers who were responsible for the success of that undertaking, as well as the recent Community Sing in the Civic Theatre Which provided a nett profit of £2o—a very welcome addition to rhe committee’s funds. The balance-sheet disclosed that the sum of £l7O was collected for fees and £3B ]2s Gd was received by the committee as “shop” proceeds, subscriptions and donations It has been the desire of the committee to raise £5O per year as a local contribution towards this so valuable a public service. Last year the receipts were £ll 7s 6d short of the amount. A .special effort will be made this year to raise the full £5O. Already about £2O is in hand. The maintenance cost of the car for ■the year under review was nearly £l6O, which gives an indication of the extent of the mileage required to carry out the widespread duties of the district, nurse. The nett cost to the Hospital Board for all charges amounted to £ls7—a very excellent result having regard to the splendid services rendered to the public. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, Mr. F. Purnell; secretary, Airs. A. H. Bill; committee, Miss Jefferson, Mrs. H. Galpin, Mi's. H. Sutcliffe, Mrs. Gower. Mrs. Dexter, Airs. F. llempleman, Airs. T. Banton, Airs. H. C. Ladley and Airs. Glasgow.
