ST. PETER’S CARNIVAL
.CROWNING CEREMONY The closing ceremony in the successful Carnival in connection with St. Peter’s Church, Gonville, was held in the Gonville Town Hall last evening, when the crowning of the winning candidate took place before a large attendance of spectators. The trumpet call, played by Captain J. Trussell, was followed by the grand march and a speech by the Lord High Chancellor (Air. Roy Tilley). Tfie stage with its grey curtains, curpetg and “throne” made a fitting setting for the queen and her attendant prinCCtsCs ftnd bearers. The winning queen, Aliss Wilma Christensen (the Guild candidate), wore a lovely frock of white satin and long crimson cape edged witn ermine. On her head was a tiara of brilliants. The three princesses, Aliss Zena Healey (choir candidate), Aliss Alolly Winter (vestry), and Aliss Alargaret McCadio (Sqnuay 1 school), were gowned in while satm with trains and they wore corosets of pearls. The Alayorcss (Mrs. N. G. Armstrong), was present and the queen and her attendants were presented to her after the crowning ceremony. Also piesented to the nord High Chancellore were the secretaries of the committees, Alesdames Bpencer, O. Warnock, B. baerwm and Air. H. Thurston, the Rev. and Mrs. Malcolm, the lady in Waiting (Mrs. Btretton), v.no woie white satin with scarlet train euged with ermine fur and diamante coronet), Dr. Porrilt Air. Bpencer. Also Aliss Joyce Hodges (who played for the various functions), Alessrs. Don Larking, C. Wray, George Larking (musicians), Air. R. Thurlow. Airs. Armstrong was presented with a lovely bouquet. The officials were: Clerk of the Court (Air. Owen Warnock), Court Jester (Mr. E. Orchard), Bearers of the Jewels, Bceptre, etc. (P- Payne, G. Deatowe, ’Abernethy, Barlow), Train Bearers (J. Rockland, Tustin, B. Cooke. Jamieson); Princesses’ Pages (D. Kenny, G. Beaumont, J. Healey); Bearers of the Standard (Messrs. Uttley and Scott); Herald (Mr. Naylor). Messrs. Gardner and Larking represented the Air Force; Flower Btrewers (Rountree. Hampton, Sergent). AH were in costume. The children were dressed in costumes of the Louis VIII period After the investiture the queen and her three princesses were prefevnted with necklets and small presentations were made to Aliss Hodges and ALss bwan (who had arranged the coronation Ceremony). Afusic was provided by an orchestra, the members being Airs. Abernethy,
Miss E. Naumann, Air. Naumann and Mr- Bevin. A flashlight photograph was taken md a dance followed.
