ROAD CONDITIONS
BAD IN CENTRAL AREA ( Per Press Association )'. AUCKLAND, July 4. A survey of the reports received today by the Automobile Association revealed that all roads in the central area had become snowbound and conditions were rapidly becoming worse. With traffic suspended south of Taupo and north of Taihape on the Alain Trunk, side traffic was not able to proceed beyond Raurimu and there were also blockages north of Raetihi. Patrols equipped with timber-jacks, tow ropes, shovels and tyre chains were despatched to the affected areas to assist motorists wherever possible. No cases of serious damage have been reported, but it seems certain that in some cases there will be a fairly considerable loss of stock. Hand-feeding has been the general rule during the past few days. AT THE CHATEAU OCCUPANTS SNOWBOUND ROADS BEING CLEARED [ Per Press Association. J AUCKLAND, July 4. As a. result of the blizzard in National Park, occupants of the Chateau were snowbound until eleven o ’clock this morning. The storm was fierce during the night, heavy snow falling. It is hoped to be able to clear the roads to National Park station to morrow, as the weather has now moderated. RIMUTAKA ROAD OPEN TO MOTOR TRAFFIC [ Per Pitas Association. ) MASTERTON, July 4. Conditions on the Rimutaka Road tonight were reported to be considerably improved and cars were able to •cross the hill with care. Wairarapa missed the full force of the storm.
