SNOW AT TAIHAPE
HEAVIEST SINCE 1918 (Own Correspondent) TAIHAPE, July 4. ; the heaviest snowfall since 1918 wt I experienced in Taihape yesterday when residents awakened to find th J ground covered* to a depth of nearl. ' four inches in the borough. The fa. in the country districts was muc heavier, .10 inches being recorded & Mataroa and 14 inches at Mangaohanc The fall varies from six inches to : foot in other parts of the district. The main street of Taihape wa I covered with a thick white mantle yet terday, but there was not much snow balling. A certain amount of damag has resulted from the visitation. Tele phonic communication has become in terrupted in some of the country di> tricts, while an iron electric powe pole near the Fire Brigade Station ha been badly bent. Several branches c trees have broken under the weight o the snow, which, it might be men tioned, did not commence falling unt ; about 3 o’clock yesterday morning, bu rapidly increased in intensity. The sun shone brightly yesterda afternoon and Taihape presented ; picturesque sight under its heav mantle of snow. Indications pointed to a sharp fros at the time of writing.
