UNEXPECTED DIFFICULTY
TARIFF RESOLUTION INCIDENT AT A MEETING HAWERA MAYOR’S ATTITUDE { Per Press Association. 1 HAWERA, July 3. An unexpected difficulty arose at th t.nd of Messrs. Goodfellow and Russell’ meeting on reciprocal trade here las night, when the Mayor (Mr. J. I Campbell), who was chairman, refuse to allow his name to be used in result lions urging the Government to tak certain steps as regards tariffs. Mr. Russell said that this was th J'.rst occasion a chairman had demurrcc Mr. Russell then recited in inipressiv manner two verses of “Not Undci stood,” including the stanza “poo souls with stunted vision.” Mr. Campbell remained firm an finally a member of the audience undei took to see that the resolution was foi warded. STRATFORD MEETING MAYOR SUPPORTS MOTION. ( Per Press Association). STRATFORD, July 3. A meeting was addressed this after noon by Mr. W. Goodfellow and Mr Albert Russell. The attendance wa over fifty, mostly farnrers, with ; sprinkling of business men. It was unanimously decided: “Tha this meeting calls upon the Governmen to fully implement the Ottawa Agree mint and lower tariffs drastically o. British imports into New Zealand” Hop-e was expressed that the Tarif Commission’s report would be made i national, and not a party issue.
