SUIT AGAINST PREMIER
STENOGRAPHER’S CLAIM. | SCANDAL IN ALBERTA. ! Received July J, 7.15 p.m. VANCOUVER, June 30. | A message from Edmonton, Alberta, 1 states that a Supreme Court jury to- : night upheld the civil action of Vivian i MacMillan, a 22-year-old stenographer, i and tiier father. Allan MacMillan, against the Premier. Mr. J. E Brownlee. of Alberta. The jury awarded Vivian 10,000 dollars, and her father 5000 dollars. Mr. Justice Ives, presiding, disagreed with the verdict, and did not enter judgment. On. a motion by the defence counsel for the dismissal of action, he reserved his decision. X ‘l strongly disagree with your verdict,’’ Air. Justice Ives told the jury. Immediately the jury was released after a six days’ hearing of the case, during which they listened to the story of Vivian, who charged the Premier ; with having improper relations with her over a three-ycur period from 1930 ' o 1933, and alleged seduction.
