ON TRENTHAM TRACKS SATURDAY’S GALLOPS PURSE DOES BEST TRIAL * With none of thS visiting horses yet on the scene, activities at Trentham are still confined to the local ■candidates for the Wellington meeting, and there was little interest in the work on Saturday morning, writes “Rangatira,” in the Evening Post. The weather was fine but very bleak, and the trial grass was slippery and soft, especially from the five to the three furlongs. The best tr'al of the morning was registered by Purse (J. K. Robertson) who handled the going excellently in record ng Imin. 6sec. for five furlongs and 52sec. for the final half-mile. She and her stablemate Flower are to race ar. the Dannevirke Hunt meeting next Wednesday, and they will be ridden respectively by L. H. Jones and A. Hobson. Red Sun (N. S. Jones), picked up by Sunee (A. Leach) at the six furlongs, ran a mile in Imin. 50sc*c. the last six in Imin. 22sec. and each half-m le in 55sec. He was going along smoothly at the finish alongside Sunee, who had to be r dden hard to remain on terms. Pahu (P. Burgess) did a sound working mile in Imin. 54sec., going faster along the back and down the straight. Epigram (Leach) was sprinted a couple of furlongs down the straight. The three-year-old is not engaged at the meeting, and he will probably be going over to Australia shortly. Gay Vai (L. Harding) and MiliVow (D. Busi/) ran an easy half-mile in 56 sec. Rulate (A. Ridgway) and Orby’s Last (I. Rohloff) were worked at a strong half to three-quarter pace over a round, and appeared to be hitting out well. The Acre—Otauru Queen gelding (A. Hobson) had not gone far on his five furlongs when his saddle slipped. He was returned to the post, and after a slow beginning ran the last half-mile in 55sec. He did not go at all generously. but, be : ng a green horse, he was probably upset by the saddle-slipping incident. Autopay was trotted and cantered round in the centre. Cottesmore was not down on the track, blit it is understood he was to have befn worked later. Capetown (Hard : ng) was twice sprinted down the straight and appeared to relish the conditions. Lovecourt (J. T. McCauley), nicked up bv Choral (Leach) near th* five furlongs, ran a mile in Imin 51see., the last half in 55sec. Choral lost some lengths in joining in, but she was soon up with her stablemate and beat her home bv a length. Gladium (P. Burgess) ran five furlongs well in Imin. 74se*c., the last half-mile in 52|sec. Dialogue (McCauley) came home from the half-mile in 53|sec. Flower (G Chile (P Burgess), end VFanhono (A. Hobson) were associated in a boot over the schooling hurdles. Thev d’d t l,n last two fi”st. Vifinhonp FUwer over them, wit'’ in rent.
