Then were many line areas in Kawihia dis . trict which could be developed to the advantage of both Maori and pakeha . It was the first genuine practical ef fort that had been made to make a useful citizen of the Maori. Albert Macalister, a farmer 0.1 Kawhia, said that he acted an an ad visory capacity to the supervisor wher | the development scheme was first pul jin hand. The work that had already | been done was worth while. It had I given the natives of the district a dif I ferent outlook and had raised the-ii hopes. The Maori was industrious and adaptable, and so Jong as the European was fair and just he would be respectec and his advice would be taken. At the conclusion of the sitting, Mr, Finlay suggested that the Commission should adjourn till Monday, as that was the earliest date at which he could secure witnesses. Mr. Finlay said that he was preparing for the evidence of the Native Minister, Mr. Ngata. The Commission adjourned till Monday.
