MATCH OF THE SEASON

OLD BOYS’ AND KAIERAU TO-MORROW'S CUP FIXTURES. BIG PUBLIC INTEREST.

(By “Cross-Bar.”') Old Boys hope to make a great bid to defeat Kaierau to-morrow. It will be the best match of the season, in that it has a very close bearing on the Cup and will mark the end of the second round. At the moment, public opinion favours the maroons, though it would be a popular win if Old Boys carried the day. Kaierau have had a long run of championship honours, have played hard, rugged Rugby to build up a great record. Old Boys are challenging the standard club of the union and the public invariably support the challenger, seeming to recognise that if a champion can be beaten the victor should be given all acclaim. Gibson, the Ohl Boys’ centre, is a doubtful starter. He has been suffer- i ing ill-health during the past week and the chances are he will not be fit by D-morrow. His absence will mean a

big difference to the Old Boys’ backs ’ and the gap will be difficult to fill. It is to be hoped that the side is not forced into the expedient of playing Bullock-Douglas at centre. On the eve of an important trial his place is on the wing. Too much emphasis cannot bo laid on that. Kaierau, with customary maroon thoroughness, will test every weak spot in the red and black defences. It should be a hard, fast game, with the result in the lap of the gods. The much-im-proved Technical Old Boys’ team is to challenge Alarist and Pirates and Waverley will meet on the racecourse.
