GIRLS' COLLEGE
BOARD’S MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Board of Governors of the Wanganui Girls College was held yesterday, Mr. D. MeFarlane presiding. There were also present: Airs. J. C. Wickham, Aliss Al. A. Newcombe, Miss A. Currie, Messrs. E. F. Hemingway, J. Richardson, G, Gordon, and J. Aitken. Miss A. C. Tizard, the principal, reported that the roll number at the college was: Secondary pupils, 311; primary, 22; boarders, 61, piano pupils, 42. Mr. H. Rowell submitted a quotation for a supply of prize books, quoting the landed cost plus 15 per cent. It was decided to accept the offer subject to the approval of the finance committee. The chairman’s action in fixing July 27 as the date for the election of the parents’ representative to the board was confirmed. It was stated that two nominations had been made, the Bev. G. 8. King and Dr. G. H. Robertson. Mr. Aitkin is retiring from the position, and will bo farewclled at the next meeting of the board.
Notification was received from the Education Department that Miss M. A. Newcombe had been reappointed to the board. Mr. McFarlane congratulated her on having been appointed a month before the nominations closed. Mr. E. R. Hodge, architect to the Wanganui Education Board, reported that the work of reconstruction at the college was proceeding satisfactorily and that the buildings would be completed shortly. The board decided to write to Mr. Hodge expressing its appreciation of the efficient and thorough manner in which he had carried out the work.
