GARRISON BAND
SUNDAY NIGHT’S CONCERT. . . A good attendance was recorded at the Opera House for the Garrison Band’s concert on Sunday evening. A new artist to Wanganui, Miss Lorna Gamble, the possessor of a beautiful soprano voice, was in excellent form and received with intense enthusiam. Miss Gamble has a keenly-developed interpretive sense, and gives her music full dramatic authority. Her diction was excellent, and tone pure. She had a very fine stage appearance, and her performance was a distinct success. Mr. Cyril Sharland was a favourite with his artistic violin solos, including the beautiful ‘‘Humoresque.” his work being extremely clean and musical. Another i excellent artist, Mr. Geo. Swan, rocked the house wtih his humorous number. “International Competition.” Seldom ■ has this favourite performed better. T’r. Swan generously responded to a evall. The band’s numbers were ex- <• iingly bright and t' neful. The selec-
tiong, “Going Up,” containing many popular hits, proved very popular. Mr. O. Williams, the brilliant euphonium player, gave a wonderful rendition of “Drigos Serenade.” Mrs. 8. L. Kendall was the accompaniste.
