FORDELL WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

The usual monthly meeting of the Fordell branch of the Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday, June 19, when Airs. Dale presided over about 60 members and friends. The meeting opened with the singing of Blake’s “Jerusalem,” after which the president welcomed all present, there being three new names to add to the list of members. The minutes were then read and adopted, and the financial statement re-1 ceived. It was decided to donate £1 towards the cost of erecting a stage in the Sunday School Hall, which is used fpr institute meetings and drama circle activities. Mrs. Birch, of Westmere, gave an interesting talk on places which she visited during her recent trip to lingland and the Continent. The speaker brought with her many beautiful post cards which helped us to appreciate the splendour of the places mentioned. -A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs. Birch for her interesting talk, many members being sorry that the speaker had not longer in which to tell of her travels. While members of the drama circle prepared for a play a competition was held, of which Afiss Hall proved to be the winner. The one-act play which Airs. Whillans produced was greatly appreciated, those taking part being Alesdames R-. Stewart, J. O’Brien, and Aliases D. AlcGovern, AL Tilley, I. Crafar, and I. Dickinson. The points competition for darning was won by Afiss G. Henderson, Afiss A. Henderson being second, and Afiss O. Barnes was third. The hostesses for the afternoon were Afesdame.s R. Sutherland, K. Aiken, and Afisses L. Bruce, I. Howie, and AL Tilley, who dispensed a delightful afternoon tea, after which the meeting closed with the Ntional Anthem. The points competitions for next month are: A humorous reading not to exceed three minutes, and 11b. of butter.
