BAPTIST CHURCH
HOW TO PROMOTE A REVIVAL. The subject for to-night’s Bible lecture in the Tngestre St. Baptist Church is entitled, “How to Promote a Revival.” In this lecture an attempt will be made to deal with this important subject. There are many who hesitate to speak definitely about revival in the church because they fear lest they may be going ahead of Divine Providence they seek to promote a widespread and spiritual movement; they would tell us that from time to time in the story of the church there have been periods when, after dark days, the sun has suddenly burst through t'he clouds, when a great spiritual leader has emerged and has been the instrument of God in a mighty religious awakening. Such times and seasons, they would say, are on the Father’s hand, and it ns not ours to know when or how they may'come. All of us would agree in part with those who hold such views. “The wind bloweth where it listeth.” We shrink from any words or thought which may verge on presumption. But the question is whether the present level of spiritual life in the church must continue until there is some intervention on the part of God, or whether He has made it possible for us to enter into a fuller life in Him. In other words, to put it quite simply, are we waiting for God, or is God waiting for us? The study is open to all, and the church building will be heated.
