General Situati n.—An intense anti-cyclone extends across the Tasman on to southern New Zealand, while the depression is still centred near the Chathams. A cyclone is located off the Queensland coast. Forecast. —Winds: Moderate to strong southerly, still gale force, between Akaroa and East Cape and in Cook Strait area, but moderating slowly. Seas (New Zealand waters): Heavy south of East Cape, moderating on the west coast of the South Island; elsewhere rough. Eastern Tasman Sea’ Moderate to strong south-east to east winds; seas moderate, but rising in the northern portion. Weather: Fine in western districts, elsewhere still changeable and squally with further showers along the east coast, especially between Cook Strait and East Cape. Cold temperatures. Phases of the Moon: —Full moon, May 1; last quarter, May 7; new moon, May 15; last quarter, May 23.
