BRITISH SECRETS STOLEN
INTERNATIONAL SPY HUNT. NEARLY 60 PERSONS ARRESTED. A great international spy hunt has been organised since the French Secret Service made a series of dramatic arrests last December. A spy organisation such as has never been known before, with ramifications in almost every country in the world, is said to have been uncovered by the investigations which have followed ' those arrests, say the Daily Express, j The spy ring was organised on a • purely commercial basis. It sold its - stolen secrets to the highest bidder. It i worked for every country that would : come into the market Its headquarters I was a great clearing house of military, ; naval and commercial plans. Powers that bought its secrets had their own sold in turn. Stavisky is believed to have been a hidden power behind the spy ring, and the secret service inquiries, it is alleged have definitely connected Mario Louise, of the Baillie-Stewart case, and her associates with the organisation. The British Secret Service is probing into the activities of the ring in England because all the latest Tank Corps secrets —of plans which were approved only in November —are alleged to have been found to be in possession of persons arrested in Paris. Altogether 58 arrests have been made so far. Inquiries in London by the Intelligence Departments of the War Office and Admiralty, and the Special Service Branch of Scotland Yard, include investigations into the life of an American couple—man and wife —who are among the suspects under arrest in Paris, and who, for a time, lived at Chelsea. London.
