Exhibition of Model Ships

An endeavour is to be made by the board of trustees of the Wanganui Museum to stage an exhibition of model ships. Mr. W. L. Fowler, of Wanganui East, whose model of a Maori war canoe and other vessels have been universally admired, together with Dr. E. J. Topham, of the Wanganui Hospital, who has a fine collection of Spanish galleons, are to be approached and asked to lend their models. There are a number of miniature ships in the museum, including a model of the “Calliope” and a French man-of-war, and it is considered that an excellent exhibition could be The house committee has been given power to act. Tenders for Canoe Carving As the period during which tendcis may be submitted has not yet expired, no decision was arrived at by the board of trustees of the Wanganui Museum yesterday in regard to the carving of • the canoe “Te Mata-O-Hoturoa. ” Mr. T. Downes reported that the two tenders submitted so far were most satisfactory, the specimens of carving being quite good. It is possible that a special meeting of trus"; tees may be called to select the most suitable tender. During the meeting Mr. Hope Gibbons, the chairman, reported that the finances of the museum were in a good position, and it appeared that a useful sum could be allotted towards the expense of carving the canoe.
