HITHER AND THITHER
Tennis Club Dance. Members of the Wanganui East Lawn Tennis Club and their friends are looking forward to the dance arranged to take place to-morrow evening in the Victoria Hall, St. Hill Street, for which a good orchestra has been engaged. Latest Food Implement. The cutlery experts have hit on a new idea. They have devised a new table implement called the “spork. ’’ It is rarely one sees anything new in the way of table cutlery, but the new idea was revealed in an illustration in an overseas journal. As its name suggests the spork is a combination of a fork and spoon and will also do duty as a knife and fork. The innovation has the ordinary spoon bowl with small pronged ends and is useful for table or picnic meals. Novelty Fabrics for Spring. We are pymised the choice of some lovely materials for spring, for the manufacturers have introduced many novelty fabrics for the next season. One of the newest is a soft woollen jersey cloth with a waffle surface, while others have quite a suede-like finish Some of the new linens are wonderfully designed with waffle and honeycomb surfaces and are most original fabrics, for they look exactly like soft woollens. They are produced in lovely colourings and many novelty weaves, and will be one of the fashion crazes for the warm months. For the jerseys and the new'wool-like linens, navy blue and all tones of pastel blue, par icularly the grey blues, will be first favourites. That practical material, grey flannel is to stage a revival and will be seen in smart little jacket suits with blouses in bright tones, such as Orleans blue or a vivid shade of coral. Worn with hats in the same toning these suits should look chic. • Modern Dinner Dishes. I Many households have a set of old|fashioned dinner dishes made gay with ; flower designs. Buttercups and daisies bedeck plates and are charmingly revealed as the food disappears. It is almost worth while to have a plat? t»f <oup, just to see the pretty picture that emerges as the soup vanishes More recently dinner dishes have been plainer or covered with angular designs. But now there is again a vogue for flower designs in the newest fable service. They are not arranged ns in discriminately as one the old-fashioned services, but grow according ‘o nature, or look as though ihey had been arranged in a vase. A group of daffodils or tulips is a charming finish to a modern shaped plate. Tht new Assigns are sparingly used and delicately coloured.
