THE PALESTINE LOAN

BRITAIN certainly is playing the Fairy Godfather to the Land of Palestine, for it is now about to guarantee the

principal and interest on a loan of £2,000,000, which is to be expended chiefly on public improvements and utilities. One interesting- item, however, is the sum of £250,000 to resettle displaced Arabs. It has been the contention of the Jewish immigrants into Palestine that the country will benefit by their financial and administrative ability. This, however, is just where the shoe pinches for the Arab. The Arab feels that in the matter of bargaining he is no match for the Jew, and that Jewry is the disturbing element in the Arab environment. It is claimed that the settling of the Jew means the unsettling of the Arab. The presence of the item for resettling dispossessed Arabs, indicates that the apprehensions of the Arabs have some sure foundation in fact.
