STOCK MARKETS
CLEARING SALE AT MAXWELL. Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report on the sale of stock held at Maxwell on account of Messrs. Morrison Bros., whose lease has expired. Both sheep and cattle came forward in good condition and in spite of the inclement weather prevailing made a very attractive yarding. The main lines of breeding ewes were keenly sought after by a large attendance of buyers who wished to avail themselves of the rare opportunity of purchasing a genuine breeding flock. The owing to
the reduced price of beef did not find as ready a sale. Prices realised are as under:— Sheep.—Ewe lambs 21s lOd, hold-over 2-th ew'es 23s Id, 2-th ewes r.w. Romney rams 29s 3d, 28s 3d, 4-th ditto 29s 2d, 255, 6-th ditto 24s Id, 255, 4-year ditto 22s 7d, 22s 4d. Cattle. —Wcaner steers £2 Is, weaner heifers £1 13s; 20-months steers £3 Is, 20-months heifers £2 18s, cows and heifers r.w. Hereford bull £2 Ils, 2J-year steers £3 15s.
