MORE INQUIRY FOR CHEESE BUTTER MARKET FIRMER There was a slight improvement in the London butter market last week. Prices showed an increase of 2s 6d to 3s a cwt. over those of tho previous week, while the market closed firmer. Deliveries of New Zealand butter were 1921 tons, compared with 1700 during tho previous week. The quantity of New Zealand butter in store was 10,405 tons, compared with 10,791 for the previous week, and 8318 tons a year ago. The cheese market closed firmer, prices showing a slight increase uu the week. The Dairy Board’s London office reports Friday’s official dosing quotations as follow, those for the previous week being shown in parentheses:— Butter New Zealand, salted, 72s 6d to 74s (70s to 71s; May 4, 1933, 72s to 735); 72s 6d to 74s equals approximately 8.4 d f.0.b.; uusalted, 72s to 745, ex. 75s (71s to 745; May 4, 1933, 72s to 765). Deliveries, New Zealand, 1921 tons. In store, 10,405 tons (includes 247 tons ex Hororata). . Australian, salted and unsalted, 71s to 72s (69s to 70s). Deliveries, Australian, 1839 tons. In store, 7296 tons. Argentine, unsalted, 70s (70s). Danish, 61s f.0.b., 82s spot (60s; 82s). Dutch, unsalted, 70s to 77s (69s to 775). Esthonian, unsalted, 68s to 69s (695). Latvian, salted and unsalted, 68s to 69s (68s to 70s). Siberian, salted, 67s to 68s (67s to 68s). Lithuanian, salted, 67s to 68s (68s to 695); unsalted, 68s to 69s 68s to 70s). The Imperial Economic Committee’s estimated stocks all butters, 1,097,666 boxes (934,279 boxes). The board has also received the following advice from its agents in Canada:—Butter; New York, 25J cents.; Montreal, 19J cents a lb.; stocks, 136 tons, last year 120 tons. Cheese New Zealand, white, 43s to 43s 6d (4Ad f.0.b.), (42s 6d to 435; May 4, 1933, 41s to 425); coloured, 42s 6d to 43s (425; May 4, 47s to 48s). Deliveries, New Zealand, 18,604 crates. In store, 127,409 crates. Canadian, white, 50s, 54s to 56s (52s to 565); coloured, 52s to 54s (52s to 565). Deliveries, Canadian, 5702 boxes. In store, 101,516 boxes. Australian Minimum Prices The New Zealand Dairy Produce Board are advised by the Australian board that they have fixed the minimum prices at which Australian butter may be sold for forward shipment to the United Kingdom during the coming week at 8 5-8 d and. 8 3-Bd, this being the same as for previous week. These prices are New Zealand f.o.b. equivalent of the Australian c.i.f.e. minimum prices fixed. Agents’ Reports The New Zealand Producers’ Cooperative Marketing Association’s weekly cabled market report from London, dated Friday, is as follows: Butter: Market has closed firm after a week of good business. New Zealand, finest grade, 72s 6d to 745; first grade, 725; Danish, 82s. Cheese: Market firm with more inquiry. New Zealand white, 43s to 43s 6d; coloured, 42s 6d to 435.
Mr. Thomas Gray has received the following report, dated May 4, from Mr. A. C. Rowson, London:—Cheese: New Zealand, white 44s per cwt.; New Zealand, coloured, 43s 6d per cwt. Butter: First grade, 73s per cwt.; finest grade, 74s per cwt. Both markets advancing and good demand.
