SCHOOL COMAIITTEE For some time past the Patea School Committee lias been endeavouring to have the playground round the school asphalted in order to keep the ground drier for the children. At the monthly meeting of the committee last Friday Air. R. E. Moore presiding, the Education Board’s architect advised that a strip round the school itself as wide as funds would permit be laid, and it. was agreed that steps be taken to obtain an estimate. In reply to the School Committee’s request for a football, advice was received by the Taranaki Primary Schools’ Rugby Union that no footballs were given free, but at a reduced price. After discussing the matter, it was agreed that the boys of the school should form their own games fund and this would provide them W'ith their own game materials. Eventually the lads would appreciate the goods they had bought themselves. Following on a question asked by a member of the committee it was discovered that although the committee had purchased a job lot of writing pads for rough school work and were available to the schoolchildren for 3d each, the children were directed by their teachers to use exercise books. Although it was pointed out that the use of the pads would mean a great saving to parents, no action was taken in the matter. Alessrs. Aiarshall and Ansley were appointed to represent the committee on the Dental Clinic committee.
