ELDERLY MAN KILLED

HIT BY MOTOR TRUCK. [ Per Press Association. 1 AUCKLAND, May 3. Fatal head injuries were received by A. R. Ponder, a well-known commercial traveller, an elderly widower, of Rugby Street, Christchurch, this afternoon when he was struck by a motor truck near the safety zone at the corner of Queen Street and Victoria Street East. The vehicle, owned by Turners and Growers, Ltd., was proceeding up Queen Street and Ponder was knocked down, striking his head on the kerb of the safety zone. The injured man was unconscious. He was taken to hospital in an ambulance. He died at 7 p.m.
