TWO SYDNEY AFFAIRS. Received April 22, 7.5 p.m. SYDNEY, April 22. What was billed as an hour’s match at Newtown Stadium, between Lurich and Pencheff, ended with a stir after 39 minutes. The match was lively, with much wild fighting. When Lurich struck the referee, the New Zealander, Mr. Robertson, he was disqualified. At the Leichhardt Stadium, “Whiskers” Blake defeated Joe Gotch after a clean contest_of wrestling.
OIL FROM COAL PLANS IN AUSTRALIA CANBERRA, April 21. A small committee is to be appointed to report upon the question of establishing a plant in Australia for the production of oil from coal by the hydrogenation process. The Newnes Investigation Commit tee considers that Newnes is the most economical location for retorting and treatment plant for the production of oil from shale. It suggests that a company be formed with a capital of £600,000. Since the appointment of the committee reductions in petrol prices have decreased the retail value of the proposed output from Newnes by about. £lOO,OOO per annum.
