QUOTA THREAT
DANGER TO DOMINIONS HAMPERING FARMING SERIOUS REPERCUSSIONS REALISATION IN BRITAIN By Telegraph—Press Association— LONDON, April 6. The Yorkshire Observer says: “It is curious that Conservative Imperialists are returning to Disraeli’s idea that the colonies are a millstone round the neck of tho Mother Country. The quota threat has created the greatest distress in New Zealand. We have still to learn the true facts about her reported offer of a free market for British goods. Australia is preparing for the crisis by sending the Queensland Premier (Mr. Forgan Smith) to discuss meat. South Australia is also opposed to restriction, but Major Elliot has emphasised that tho Dominions must submit to the quota like the Argentine. If wo seriously hamper Dominion farming, the repercussions will affect enormous British investments in the Dominions, who also will not continue to welcome British manufactures.”
