TROTTING
MANAWATU MEETING AWAPUNI COURSE TO-DAY. EXHIBITION BY HAROLD LOGAN. For several seasons the Manawatu Trotting Club has been able to use the Ashhurst racecourse for the annual meeting, but this year it was felt that a transfer of activities to the Awapuni course would enable the club to cater more particularly for the Palmerston North public. Thus it is that the meeting to-day will be held on the picturesque Awapuni course. Fields are of useful size and the displays should not fail to please patrons of the lightharness sport. The programme and classes are similar to last year’s, with a slight tightening of the Alanawatu Trotting Cup and tho first mile and a-quarter event. The acceptance is one of the best the club has yet had, and keen racing is thus assured. The totalisator will operate on the single-pool system, with three dividends in fields of nine or more runners, and two dividends in fields of six, seven, or eight runners. The course at present is in perfect order. A special feature of the day’s sport will bo the exhibition trot by New Zealand’s champion pacer Harold Logan. Tho following are likely to be well supported in their respective engagements to-day:— Awapuni Handicap.—Bell Heather, Black Native. Ladies’ Bracelet.—Jester, Guy Zolock. Pohangina Handicap.—Aerial Boy, Arthur Chimes. Alanawatu Cup.—Smoke Screen, Hard Words, Bello o’ Aline. Longburn Handicap.—Greatfast. Guy Zolock. McDonald Handicap.—Earl Bingen, Greatfast. Dash Handicap. Lislea, Storm Queen. President’s Handicap. Smoke Screen, Oro’s Pride.
