ANOTHER TRIUMPH
HIGH PRAISE IN PARIS. NEW BRITISH PRODUCTION. British films achieved , another triumph at the world premiere of “Catherine the Great,” shown at tho Theatre des Miracles in Paris recently. Ambassadors, Cabinet Ministers, Senators, Deputies, and representatives ot literary and artistic Paris rubbed shoulders together in the audience ami were unanimous in applause. Among the brilliant gathering were Lord Tyrrell, the British Ambassador, the Embassy staff, and the Prince and Princess of Asturias, ex-heirs to the Spanish throne. This is the second British film to have its world premiere in Paris within the last few months, the first being “The Private Life of Henry VIII.” High tributes yvere paid to Douglas Fairbanks, jun., in the role of the Grand Duke Peter, heir to the Russian throne, and to Elizabeth Bergner as Catherine. Douglas Fairbanks, jun., who made a 6000-mile dash frow Hollywood to Paris by air and sea, was present in the audienefe. Miss Elizabeth Bergner, however, who was playing at the Apollo Theatre in “Escape Me Never,” was unable to attend. At the conclusion of the performance the whole house rose and applauded George Grossmith, who, as chairman of the London Films, made a speech in French.
