“IT IS TOO COLD TO GO SWIMMING NOW,” SAYS “STRAWBERRY QUEEN."

Dear Wendy,—Here 1 am at the Hut’s door again. Easter soon passed by, didn’t it, Wendy? “Bush Fairy” and my father went to the Jerusalem sports. “Bush Fairy” won the pony jump and the bending race and my father won the wood chop. Did you go to the sports, too, Wendy? It is too cold to go swimming now, isn’t it? Wendy, will you please tell me what C.W.K. means? This is all the news for now. Love. —From “STRAWBERRY QUEEN,” C.W.K., Petangi. Easter soon came and passed by, didn’t it, dear? Do you know but at the rate time is flying it will soon be Xmas again, won’t it? How pleased I am to hear of your daddy and “Bush Fairy” winning prizes. No, I did not attend the sports for the day looked very unpleasant and seemed like rain. C.W.K. is awarded to you by our Sir Ernest Endeavour for service and loyalty in our clan. You must always sign the C.W.K. after you pen-name in your letters to me.—Wendy. “BEAU MADEZ” DISCUSSES WHITE BUTTERFLY MENACE. Dear Wendy,—l was glad to see C.W.K. after my pen-name in my last letter to you. Will you please let me know what it means? Last Saturday I went to Jerusalem sports. 1 enjoyed myself thoroughly. The scenery we saw on the way up was beautiful. The sports were held on a flat above tho road. When we arrived there it was 11 o’clock. I came second in a boys’ race. My sister came first in the bending race and first in the pony jump. My father came second in two wood chops and we all won something. The M eather Clerk has been giving us some line weather, hasn't he t Wendy? But 1 am hoping it will rain soon or our tanks will be dry. We have been reading a lot about destroying the white butterflies by catching them, but why not collect and destroy caterpillars, too? I think if some reader found a way to destroy eggs and larvae it would diminish this very serious menace. I will close now, Wendy, —Your true Ite, “BEAU MADEZ,” C.W.K., Fetangi. The honour Sir Ernest Endeavour conferred upon you, dear, was in recognition of your loyalty to our clan. I am pleased you spent a happy time at the sports. Always jolly functions, aren’t they? Oh, bravo! So you gained a prize. 1 am pleased. I am proud to read that you are interested in the destruction of the white butterfly pest. Some time ago it was mentioned in our page that everyone should search for and destroy as many of the caterpillars as they could find. —Wendy. “LANG LANG” ENJOYS ANNUAL SPORTS GATHERING UP-RIVER. Dear Wendy,—How are you? Well, were you at the Parikino sports? It wasn’t a very fine day. At mid-day the sun shone and we were very glad. When we were having a three-legged race, “Lulu Rose” and I came second, and we received 2s. When the sports were over we went to the dancing hall. I enjoyed myself at the dance. There were many people there. In the mom-< ing the people returned to their homes. Cheerio. With love. —From “LANG LANG,” Parikino. No, dear, I did not attend the sports, as the day was very unpleasant and rain looked very near. Oh, bravo! I am proud to hear that “Lulu Rose” and yourself won a prize. Dancing is jolly, isn’t it?—Wendy. “AROHANUI-ITE” GAINS A FIRST PRIZE AT SHOW. Dear Wendy,—l thought I had better hurry and tell you that I won first prize at the show and Ivan received second. The pony didn’t gain any. We have four more new children coming to our school so that makes fourteen. The earthquake damaged our hot water tank and we had the plumber out to fix it the next day. My sister’s chimney came down and the neighbour’s, too; but it is rebuilt now. I am concluding. Love.—From “ARO-HAiNUI-ITE, ” C.W.K., Ngutuwera. Oh, bravo! lam ever so pleased to hear you won a first prize at the show, dear. Poor pony! Never mind, per haps it will next time. Y’our school is growing, isn’t it? Luckily I had no damage done at my home. 1 should have been very afraid had one of my j chimneys fallen during the ’quake. Nasty things, aren’t they?—Wenay. “BROWN EYES” KEENLY ANTICIPATES COMING GOLF SEASON. Dear Wendy,—Well, I have settled down after my holiday, but often wish I were back there. The friend I was staying with at Palmerston North was tup here for Easter. We had a great time, the only trouble was she had only four days, as she had to get back for work on the Tuesday. We went to the pictures last night and saw ‘Broadway to Hollywood.” It was rather good. To-day I’m going to the beach, but I think it is a bit cold for-< swim. The show was a great success on March 17, Wendy. The horse jumping was very good. I didn’t put anything in this year as I didn’t get home until trtie night before from my holiday. The tennis season will soon be over here and golf will be starting. I like both sports, Wendy, so I don’t mind when one ends and another starts. I start in the same division as my mother at golf this year, but I know it will be a long time before I have the same handicap. Never mind, I have only played one year, so I can’t expect everything in that time. I sold my pet lamb, and we do miss it around the place. Well, I must close now. Best iwishes to all the Itos and vourself.— From ‘ ‘ BROWN EYES, ’’ M.W.L., Wendydale. How soon the time does pass by, doesn’t it? 1 know whenever I have a holiday the days rush by so quickly that before I have begun to look about me the calender says I must be returning. Shows are jolly affairs, aren’t they? I always like to attend them. Mother will have to be your coach, dear. Some day I hope to hear you have rivalled her fine golf—Wendy.
