Cattle Drowned at Ferry.

Tn the, Mokau Rivor on Friday several head of cattle were drowned in rather unusual circumstances, reports The Taranaki Daily News. The beasts wore being ferried across the river at a point about 16 miles above the Kokau Bridge, when the ferry capsized and sank. Two men who were in charge of the cattle at the time, wore both on the ferry, which at the time of the mishap was about 20 yards from the bank , and in deep water. One man succeeded in jumping clear, bur the other had some difficulty in getting clear of the overturning punt, and was fortunate [not to be. pinned underneath. Both men reached the bank and several of the cattle also swam ashore, but others, entangled in tho rails of the punt, were drowned.
