Commenting on criticism of the time elapsing between the end of the financial year and the official announcement of the result of the year’s working, tho Prime Minister (Kt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) said that Britain had a post audit and New Zealand a pre-audit, so that in the Dominion it was not possible to know the financial position until the audit was completed. Questioned about the effect of this dalay, Mr. Forbes said at various times the matter had been discussed by Cabinet, but the difficulties wore considered to be such as to make a change in tho system inadvisable. Ho could not comment on the advantage, or otherwise. Io the Government and to the business community of knowing tho country’s financial position earlier than nt. present.
