Mr. and Mrs. Frank Thorkleson, New Plymouth, arc spending Easter in Wanganui and are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. F. Carpenter, St. John’s Hill. Mrs. P. J. Ryan and Miss Joan Ryan, of Wellington, who are visiting Wanganui for the Easter festivities, arc staying at Foster’s Hotel. They will return to Wellington on Tuesday. Mrs. G. Wall, Wanganui East, was hostess at a “gift” evening recently, given in honour of Miss Una Hine, whose marriage takes place this week. Music, games and competitions were enjoyed. Miss 0. Kay and Miss B. Gaisford arrived in England on March 13. The British women’s open championship is scheduled for the week commencing May 11, the final on May 17. Mr. and Mrs. Reg. Lawrence, of Makirikiri, left on Saturday for Nelson, where Mr. Lawrence will fulfil the duties of best man to Mr. R. MeNiven at his wedding. Miss L. Steinmitz, of Fiji, who has been spending a few days with Mrs. lan Hamilton, Parihauhau, has returned to Auckland, where she intends staying some weeks before returning to her home in the islands. Mrs. W. Day has returned from Wellington, where the marriage of her daughter took place last week. She was accompanied by Mrs. W. R. Day and Master Richard Day, of Blenheim. \ Visitors to Wanganui for Miss Pepper’s wedding, which takes place today, include Mr. and Mrs. Robb (Raeti\hi), Mr. and Mrs. D. Illston and Mfss Myra Illston (Hunterville), Mr. and Mrs. F. Nicholson (Hunterville), M&sdames Brothers, Nicholson (Tamilarupui), M. Nicholson (Raetihi), S. Floyd (Hunterville), Mr. N. Nicholson ' (Raetihi). Mf. and Mrs. G. H. Douglas, of Waltham’ Cross, London, both New Zealanders by birth, have been making a tour of the country lately, having arrived by the Largs Bay. They brought their own u.ur, and arc delighted with all they have'peen in their native land, especially the native forest, which they consider unrivalled in comparison with that of other parts they have visited. New Plymou .h Gardens, Papakura Park, tho Dawson Falls, and the wonderful tree ferns of Taranaki, all came in for sincere admiration from the travellers. With a 1110 vie -camera they secured pictures of the Waitangi celebrations, and hope to present them io the British Empire League, London, to which they belong. Mr. a,nd Mrs. Douglas will leave by the Tamiiroa on their return journey Home. A Gift Party Miss Angela Perry, who has completed her training at the Stewart Karitane Home, will shortly be leaving for her home in Wellington, where her marriage will take place in a few weeks’ time. JMiss Perry was the guest of honour at a delightful gift party given last week by Mrs. A. U’Neill at her home in Ingestre Street. \ ases of pink and apricot-shaded dahlias made lovely decorations in the drawing room, where the guests spent a pleasant time with competitions and games. The hostess wore an attrac-tively-designed gown of black lace, and the guest of honour was in a dainty frock of beige ottoman satin and smart beige hat. A competition was won by Mrs. H. Keesing, aftei which a delectable afternoon tea was served.
