SURF LIFE SAVING

NATIONAL MEETING. ()ITTCIALS APPOINTED. Several aspects of the national championship competitions to be hold on February 24 and 25, were dealt with at a recent meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Surf and Life-saving Association. Air. P. F. Coira presided, and also present were Messrs. F. Chapman, S. Aluller, W. Gcrric, J. Milburn, A. Ross, and N. A. Ingrain. It was decided to advise district associations that the name.j of delegates to represent them at the New Zealand Conference must be notified to the secretary prior to the conference. Messrs. Coira and Ingram were elected to represent the New Zealand Council. Among the remits for discussion at the conference is one from Auckland, suggesting that all land drill should be omitted in future Nelson Shield competitions. A similar recommendation is made by Wellington. Among other remits are the following:—From Wanganui: (1) Owing to the wrong impression being created in the minds of the general public it be a recommendation to all clubs to carry out the complete drill for the promotion of warmth in nil demonstrations. (2) That all contents for tho Nelson Shield be held at an ocean beach and not in an enclosed harbour or river. From Wellington: This conference recommends that all dates of provincial surf championships shall be submitted to the New Zealand Council for approval. From the Now Zealand Council: (1) That the advisability of creating a teams’ expenses fund to the national championships be considered by the collection of Is per member per annum from members nf affiliated clubs. (2) That - subject to the approval of tho Dominion Council and the district association concerned the Dominion championships be held each year in the second week-end in February. The following officials were appointed to control the championships:—Referee, Mr. P. F. Coira; marshall’ Mr. N. A. Ingram; assistant marshall, Air. H. Crocth-Sidford; judges, Nelson Shield, Messrs. P. D. Edwards, R. Howell, and H. S. Congdon; William Henry Memorial Shield. Messrs. J. A. Duffy, K. C. Reid, and W. H. Haggrttt; other water events and boltman’s championship, Messrs. P. D. Edwards, R. Howell, H. S. Congdon, J. A. Duffy, K. Reid, and W. H. Haggett; timekeepers, Messrs. V. Allan (convener), W. Griffen, J. Blackeney; judges at buoys. Messrs. R. Moor and F. Smith; judges’ convener. Mr. K. C. Reid; secretary, Mr. F. Chapman: assistant secretary, Mr. TT. Creeth-Sidford.
