Meteorological Office, Wellington, Friday, February 9, 4 p.m. General Situation. —The disturbance responsible for the recent unsettled weather is moving away eastward and an anti-cyclone is moving from the Tasman on to New Zealand. Forecast. —Winds: Southerly, moderate to strong, but decreasing and veering to northerly later in the far south. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough south of East Cape and in parts of the Cook Strait area, with a heavy southerly swell; elsewhere smooth to moderate. Weather: Still some isolated showers in eastern and northern districts, but improving. Elsewhere fine. Temperatures cold but becoming milder tomorrow. Prospects are favourable for the week-end. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, one hour. Rainfall, nil. Shade temperatures: Afaximum 62 deg. Fahr.; minimum, 50 deg. Fahr. Phases of the Aloon.—Full moon, February 1; last quarter, February 8; new moon, February 15; last quarter, February 22.
