Meteorological Office, Wellington, Monday, January 29, 4 p.m. General Situation.—An intense anti-cyclone is centred east of the South Island, while a fresh depression covers south-eastern Australia, where another hot spell has set in. Forecast. —Winds: East to north and moderate to strong. Seas (N.Z. Waters): Rough on the east coast and in the Cook Strait area, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong north erly winds and moderate but rising seas. Weather: Still unsettled with some rain in the North Island south of Auckland and in parts of eastern and northern districts of the South Island, but improving gradually ami elsewhere fine. Temperatures cool, but rising to-morrow. Phases of the Moon. —Full moon, February 1; last quarter, February 8; new moon, February 15; last quarter, February 22.
