RELEASE FROM GAOL
BLUE SHIRT LEADERS HIGH COURT’S DECISION PRISONERS AWARDED COSTS (By Telegraph-Press Association—Copyright) Received Dee. 22, 11.55 p.m. DUBLIN, Dec. 22. In the High Court, Mr. Justice O’Byrne, ordered General O’Duffy’s immediate release. Ho said it was impossible to conclude that Superintendent Murray’s reason for the arrest was suspicion that General O'Duffy was a member of an illegal organisation. The Public Safety Act conferred wide powers ou the police and must bo construed most favourably to tho liberty of the subject. Tho only reasonable inference was that the men arrested were wearing blue shirts and attempting to address a meeting. Mr. Justice O’Byrne granted General O’Duffy’s and Mr. Sullivan’s costs. Both were loudly cheered on leaving gaol. It is understood that General O ’Duffy and Mr. Sullivan will be re-arrested and tried my the military tribunal on a charge of suspected belonging to an illegal organisation. BEFORE TRIBUNAL CHARGES AGAINST CRONIN. Received Dec. 22, 9.5 p.m. DUBLIN, Dec. 21. Major Cronin was charged before the military tribunal with uttering seditious words alleging that the police had “planted” ammunition in the Young Ireland headquarters on the occasion of the raid on November 30, and also with membership of illegal associations—the Young Ireland movement and the National Guard.
