The monthly sitting of the Taihape Alagistrate’s Court opened before Air. R. M. Watson, S.M., on Thursday afternoon. Overloaded Tyres. H. J. Fowler, trac inspector to the Rangitikei County Council proceeded against Brooky Bros. (Alataroa) for overloading the tyres of a motor lorry on December 6. Mr. Fowleer stated, in evidence, that the lorry was used for carting wool, for which it, was unsuited, and was loaded with bales on the day in question. The rear tyres wore over loaded to the extent of 12001 b and the effect on the road would be the same as though the whole lorry was overloaded. In addition, it was dangerous to drive a lorry with the tyres overloaded and he had brought the case so that it would serve as a warning that lorries must not be overloaded in this manner. This was the first case of its kind that he had brought before the Taihape Court, and he was not asking for a penalty. L. M. Brooky explained to the Court that this particular lorry was not usu ally used for carting wool, but had been brought into commission for this purpose to cope with the rush. His firm would not, use the lorry again for wool carting and would not have used it at all had they known the tyres were overloaded. He was sorry a minor breach had been committed. A fine of £2 and costs 25s was imposed. John Jackson was convicted and (n , dered lo pay costs and solicitors’ tee
