LUTE VELEZ MARRIED. SCREEN TARZAN AS HUSBAND After keeping their admirers guessing for several weeks, Lupe Velez, the Mexican film star, frequently dubbed the “Hot Pepper of the Screen,” and Johnny Weissmuller, former world’s champion speed swimmer, and portrayer of Tarzan in the picture of that name, now admit that they are married, states a message from Los Angeles. The marriage took place* shortly after they obtained a license at Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 8. On October 7, when Miss Velez announced her intention of marrying, Mr. Weissmuller countered with the statement that, “I’m just out of trouble — and, believe me, I’m staying out!’’ Next day, however, the couple went to Las Vegas and made public their matrimonial intentions bv taking out a marriage license. On their return to Hollywood Miss Velez admitted the license, but emphasised that they were not married, and declared that they did not know when they would bo. Johnny Weissmuller stands 6ft. 3in. in his socks, and is very popular in Hollywood. He was recently divorced from Bobbie Arnst. Lupe Velez de ViHaobos. who has flashing eyes and teeth, jet black hair, and a dynamic personality, is 23 years old. She started as a dancer. AT THE GONVILLE GLOBE HOLIDAY SCREENINGS. The present attraction at the Globe Theatre, Gonville, is “Love on Wheels,’’ with Jack Hulbert at his best and funniest, ably backed up by Gordon Harker. Next Wednesday “Rich and Strange,” starring Henry Kendall and Joan Barry, shows the adventures of a bank clerk suddenly deluged with wealth. • • • • On Saturday next comes “The Rebel,” with Luis Trenkner and Vilma Banky in another “Doomed Battalion.”
