R.S.A. ENTERTAINMENT. There was standing room only at the Bulls R.S.A. concert held on Wednesday evening, and as a result about £3O will be available for the relief of returned soldiers in need. The programme was a very long one, running for three and a-half hours, but there was hardly a dull moment in the Jot. and at times the audience rocked with laughter at tho quips and pranks of the “diggers.” The concert was a credit to the amateur performers, and particularly to Messrs. A. W. Churchill (organiser). A. C. Lane, (stage manager), C. H. Edwards (musical conductor and pianist), J. Currie (humourist), W. Sutherland (the pocket comedian) and Harry McManaway (who was responsible for the lighting effects). Tlhe performers and visitors were entertained at supper afterwards. The programme opened with “dig gers’ ” songs and sea chanties. A musical sketch, “The Dis-orderly Room,” was capably handled by Messrs. Sutherland, Churchill, Rich and Bond. Air. J. Currie led community singing, introducing old soldiers’ ditties. A sailor’s hornpipe by Air. J. Murphy was followed by a farce, “ That Brute Simmonds,” Miss I. Signal making an aggressive Airs. Simmonds, H. H. Holland, the down-trod-den, henpecked Simmonds, and J. B. Signal, the bluff Captain Ford. Air. Churchill sang the Maori war song “Haere Tonu,” and was warmly applauded. A sketch. “The Barber’s Shop,” saw the heavy part taken by Air. J. Currie, and caused great amusement. The second half of the programme opened with a meeting of the “Buffalo Women’s Din-stitute.” a skit on local affairs, in which the ballot box mishap, glee singing and folk dancing saw tho “diggers” outdo their fair sisters. It was the star laughter-raising item of the evening. Mr. W. Jackson (Marton) gave a bright conjuring and sleight of-hand exhibition, and then came “Tho (Dancing Horse,” a clever bit of business. Sea chanties were followed by a comic song, “ Move a Little Bit Farther up,” Air. J. Currie earning merited applause. A soldier’s sketch, “The Last Night in Billets,” and final chorus brought the gathering to a finale. The bugle calls were splen didly rendered by Mr. G. Hitching. PAREWANUI SCHOOL. There was a good attendance of parents at the prize-giving at Parewanui School on Wednesday, and the pupils provided a bright entertainment, rendering songs, recitations and carols. Mr. Mitchell presided .and spoke of the progress made, and the improved tone of the school, paying high tributes to the teaching staff. Certificates of proficiency were issued to Joan Brown and William Bowen. The prize list was as follows: —Form 11, .loan Brown; Form 1. Elizabeth Young: Standard TV, Robert Russell; Stand ard 111 Joan Mitchell; Standard 11. Christopher Bowen; Standard I. Ina Bowen; Primer IV. Betty Crosland. Special prizes: Science, William Bowen; sowing (senior), Zona Mont gomcric; (junior), Joyce Holland. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies.
