SCHOLARSHIPS CANCELLED [ Per Preu Aaaoeiatios 1 AUCKLAND, Dec. 17. The cancellation of scholarships by the Maori Purposes Fund Control Board, a board under th e Minister ot Native Affairs, was referred tv by the principal of Wesley College, Mr. K C. (’lark, when speaking at the prizegiving ceremony at the college. 1 ‘I would like to protest against the action of the board in cancelling its Maori scholarships,” said Mr. Clark. “At present it is practically impossible for a Maori lad, however capable,, to receive more than two years’ secondary education. “A clear statement of the board’s activities, financial position, and future policy would be welcomed by persons and bodies interested in the education of Maori boys and girls. It has been our experience that such information is ertremelv difficult to obtain.”
