RUAHINE
SCHOOL CONCERT On Friday evening the pupils of the Ruahine School, organised by the schoolmaster (Air. G. Talbot), gave a successful concert. Th e chairman, Air. W. Evans, in a short speech, expressed bis thanks on behalf of the committee to Air. Talbot and his helpers, for the way they had worked to make this evening such a success. The children were wonderfully trained, their acting in the short plays were delightful, also the singing in the choruses. The hall was tastefully decorated and every available seat was occupied. The programme was: ‘‘John Peel” and "Skye Boat,” song (chorus) Linda Evans, Alyra Thompson, Barbara Guthrie, Dorothy Armstrong, Jean AfcAlillan, Ailccn Hall, D. Hall, Douglas Evans, Owen Evans, Hillcry Thompson, Vernon Thompson and Afervyn Hall; solo, "Kiwi,” Barbara Guthrie; recitation, "Cuckoo,” Owen Evans; short play, "Babes in the Wood,” by the chorus; piano and violin duet, Jean AfcAlillan and K. O’Dwyer; "The Harp That Once” and "Loch Lomond,” chorus; song, "The Wasp and the Bee,” Hillary Thompson; "Aferry and Bright” (one-act play), pupils; song, "I Passed by Your Window,” Jean AfcAlillan, Myra Thompson at the piano; rags and bones (short song). "Blue Bells of Scotland” and "Home, Sweet Home,” chorus; "The Farmer,” chorus of boys; solo, Myra Thompson; "Cradle Song,” chorus. After the concert a dainty supper was served and a dance followed. Music was supplied by Airs. Francis Thompson and Airs. J. Afonk.
