FAMOUS TENOR BELL

WOLSEY'S GIFT BEING RECAST. 'I be eight bells of Sherborne Abbey, Dorset, are now in the old Whitechapel Bell Foundry, in East London, where two of them were cast and a third i ecast. They form the heaviest peal of eight in the country, the tenor bell atone weighing more than 2J tons. This tenor bell, known as Wolsey s boll, is historic. It is one of a number which the gieat cardinal took from "ournai, Belgium, and distributed Among various churches. It hears the inscription:— By Wolsey’s gift I measure Time for all. To mirth; io grieffe; to Church I serve to all. The bell has been several times recast, and now’ expert inspection has shown that it needs it again.
