I AUCKLAND, Dec. 5. i The Police Court was crowded this morning when William Alfred Bayly, aged 28, farmer, of Ruawaro, near Huntly, who was arrested iu Auckland last evening, appeared in on a charge that on October 15 at Ruawaro he murdered Christobcl Lakey. The Crown Prosecutor (Mr. Meredith ) applied for a romand till December 13. Air. E. I’. Northcroft, for the prisoner, said that he would like an indication as to when the hearing of the case was likely to go on. Ho said that; the matter had been in the hands of tho police for a long time, and it could be assumed that they were ready The defence was entitled to expect tba', the case would go ahead as quickly as possible. Air. Alerc'dith: “I can assure my friend that the case will be gono on with with the utmost despatch.” The magistrate (Mr. Hunt) granted a remand and the, prisoner was removed.
