Perfect summer weather prevailed for the second day of the Takapuna Jockey Club meeting, when there was another good attendance. The totalisator receipts were £21,101, an increase of £5506 10s on last year’s figure. The receipts for the meeting was £42,956, an increase of £6879 15s over last year. The day began with another large dividend when Roman Mascot beat a field of 23 to pay over a third of a century on the win machine. There were no other double-figure returns. An inquiry was held regarding bumping half-way up the straight between Hampton Park and Berea tu in the Cautley Handicap and the Judicial Committee decided that the bumping was accidental. Bellkyrian, Chief Clerk and Lagoon were smartest to begin, followed by Teddy Bny, Roman Mascot and Solomon. Nearing the turn Roman Mascot shot through on the rails when Bellkyrian took Chief Clerk and Teddy Boy out wide. Roman Mascot ran on well to score by a length from Solarium, who galloped very fast on the outside to beat Bellkyrian by half a length. Chief Clerk was fourth. Time, 1.14. CAUTLEY HANDICAP (Of £125; six furlongs.) 4/4 —Sinking Fund, 7.13, N. R. McKenzie .. 1 3/2—Greek Gold, 9.3, A. Tinker * 6/7 —Quietly, 7.7, Duncan * •Dead-heat for second. Also: 2/2 Paganelli 9.1, 1/1 Rereatu 7.13, 7/6 Puriri Park 7.93, 5/5 Hampton Park 7.6. The inside horses, Greek Gold and Rereatu were first away, with Paganelli lagging. Sinking Fund was up quickly, joining Greek Gold in the lead from Rereatu, Hampton Park, Puriri Park, Quietly and Paganelli. Halfway down the straight Rereatu attempted to go between the leaders but was badly stopped, Sinking Fund going on to win by half a head from Greek Gold and Quietly, who ran a dead-heat for second. Free Air dropped back slightly at the half- mile, leaving United and Eldora in charge from Snow Prince and Free Air, with Black Marlin moving up quickly. United and Black Marlin were first into the straight from Snow Prince, Free Air and Courthaven. Black Marlin then forged ahead to win by a length from Free Air, who defeated Courthaven by half a length- Snow Prince was fourth. Time, 2.27. From a good start Gay Marigold led Thespis, King Mcstor, Tavern Knight, Gay Broney and Jonathan. Soon King Mcstor assumed command from Gay Marigold and Tavern Knight, who were together ahead of Psychologist, Thespis, Bugle Call, Kurapae and Jonathan. Gay Marigold ran on strongly under pressure to score decisively by one and three-quarter lengths from Thespis, with Tavern Knight a length away, third. Musquil was fourth. Time, 1.53. RAKINO HANDICAP (Of £ll5 ; five furlongs.) 3/3 —Gay Blonde, 7.13, Broughton . 1 1/1 —Rercpai, 8.2, Cammick 2 8/8 —Royal Appellant, 7.4, Baker . 3 Also: 4/4 Wahroonga 8.0, 2/2 High Crest 7.9, 6/5 Waitaka 7.8, 7/7 Nun Nicer 7.81, 5/6 Lady Burleigh 7.21. The inside horses, Lady Burleigh and Gay Blonde, were quickest to find their feet, Gay Blonde leading along the back from Waitaka, Rercpai and High Crest. Gay Blonde stayed on solidly to score by two lengths from Rprepai, who defeated Royal Appellant by a similar margin. Wahroonga was fourth. Time, 1.0 2-5. ST. Whakapara led early from Baroscope, Lord Vai, Prolyxo, Mungatoon and Gay Cockade. Whakapara began to tire nearing the turn and Alloy led into the straight from Mungatoon, Prolyxo, Whakapara and Lord Vai. Then Prolyxo shot to the front to win by a length from Alloy, who beat Mungatoon by two lengths. Palm Queen was fourth. Time, 1.52 3-5. Arch Ruler, Hushing and Sinking Fund were smartest to begin but Boughal, who was last away from the outside, showed brilliant speed to take the lead after a furlong. Boughal was still in command entering the straight from Sinking Fund, Arch Ruler, Expectancy, Cherry King and Hushing. Sinking Fund challenged and stayed on to win nicely by three parts of a length from Boughal. Arch Ruler was a length away and Royal Gallant was fourth. Time, 1.27. NGATARINGA HANDICAP (Of £150; seven furlongs.) • LADY’S BOY. 7.7, Voitre 1 2/I—SUNNY SKY', 8.11, Wiggins . 2 5/5 —J A ELD Y KARO, 7.1, Duncan 3 Also: 1/2 Paganelli 9.1, 6/6 Flying Prince 8.3, 4/4 Limex 7.3. From an excellent start Lady’s Boy and Jaeldy Karo led from Sunny Sky, Limex and Paganelli. At the back Sunny Sky ran into second place and soon Jaeldy Karo was up third. The three leaders held their respective positions to the finish, Lady’s Boy winning by a head from Sunny Sky, who beat Jaeldy Karo by two lengths. Time, 1.25 3-5.
