RUAWARO MYSTERY f WILLIAM BAYLY CHARGED DEATH OF MRS. LAKEY [Per Press Association. 1 AUCKLAND, Dec. 4. A farmer of Ruawaro, William C Alfred Bayly, was arrested in Auckland p to-night on a charge of murdering o Christobel Lakey ar Ruawaro on or v about October 15. It was seven weeks n ago to-day since the police investiga- p tion into the mystery at the remote r farmhouse was commenced. it The officers who made the arrest were s Detectives Snedden and Allsopp, who were the first detectives to be engaged £ on the case. a. Driven by Detective Walsh, of Wan- it ganui, they proceeded by motor-car a from the city to a house in Great South Road. Green Lane. Arriving there at I 7.30 o’clock, the car was parked in n Great South Road opposite the carriage e entrance to the residence, and Detec- s tives Snedden and Allsopp left the - premises about 7.55 p.m. accompanied c by the arrested man. The car imme- t diately left for the Central i’olice Sta- - tion. u Senior-Sergeant Lambert was in 3 charge at the watchhouse when the arrested man arrived. After the charge r ■was noted and a description of the e arrested man’s effects entered on the a records, he was placed in the cells. The ~ whole incident occupied about 40 min- h utes from the time of the police visit h to the house at Green Lane, and the formalities at the watchhouse. The e operation was carried out smoothly and I there was no occurrence to distinguish p it from an ordinary arrest. r The arrested man is married and is 2 stated to be 28 years old. There are v two young children, both boys. Bayly, who came from Ruawaro on Friday on 1 a visit to Auckland, is to appear in 8 Um Police Court to-morrow.
