FLOUR TAX
COMMONWEALTH DECISION. * JJEW SOUTH WALES’ ACTION. Received Dec. 4, 7.10 p.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 4. The Premier of New South Wales, Mr. B. S. Stevens, says that as a result of the Commonwealth decision to impose a flour tax of £4 5s a ton, the State Government will legislate for the abolition of the State flour tax of 30s a ton. Cabinet is opposed to the suggestion that the sale of bread over the shop counters should stop, as half of Sydney’s bread supply is said to be disposed of in this way. The committee investigating the subject has not yet reported.
