Mr. H. Ansford, of the staff of the Patca Post Office, has received notice of his transfer to Raurimu.

Mr. D. G. O’Toole was initiated as a member of the Wanganui Rotary Club yesterday.

Two songs were sung at the weekly luncheon of the Wanganui Rotary Club yesterday by Rotarian S. R. McCallum, the club’s secretary. He was accompanied by Miss Eileen Cornyns.

The death occurred suddenly on Sunday of Aliss Alorton Jones, daughter of the late Air and Mrs Morton Jones. Born in Auckland, she came to Wanganui as a child, and resided here throughout her life, at one time occupying the position of assistantmatron at the Wanganui Girls’ College. The late Aliss Morton Jones did much valuable work on various organisations, amongst others the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and she was present at the annual meeting of the Wanganui branch held recently. She did much good work on committees during the war and there were many soldiers who were glad of the regard she showed for their welfare. On two occasions she visited England and the Continent. She will bo missed by a wide circle of friends, with whom she was always popular. A brother, Air Owen Alorton Jones, resides at Auckland. A service will be held at Christ Church to-day at 2.15 p.m., after whivh the cortege will leave for the old Wanganui Cemetery.
