WAITOTARA

CRIB CLUB Last Tuesday evening the final meeting for the season of the Crib Club took place. After a pleasant two hours spent at the tables, Airs. H. Hurley was presented with the ladies’ prize for highest score. Air. T. McLean carried away the gent’s prize, Miss Armstrong and Air. A. Currie qualified for the consolation prize. Airs. Al. W. Watson and Air. T. AlcLean won the prizes presented for the highest aggregate scores. PLUNKET SOCIETY The Waitotara Sub-committee of the Plunket Society held a meeting in the hall supper-room on Wednesday (No vember 29). Those present were Mesdames Lee, K. Vcrry, A. Hooper, Wai ner, Clifton, Watson, H. Hurley, R. Tennent, McCulloch, Kelly, Mclntosh, P. Harting and Sandiford. Airs. Lee presided in the absence of Airs. W. H. Hurley. It was decided to hold a Christmas tree treat on the afternoon of Decent ter 16, to be followed by a 500 card evening for adults. Gifts will be on sale at the bring and buy stall during the afternoon. The committee expressed regret on hearing of the transfer of Nurse Horrell to Christchurch. It has been largely due to her untiring efforts that the work in Waitotara has gone ahead so well. CALF REARING COMPETITION 'The judging of the pet lamb and calf-rearing competitions took place in the school grounds on Thursday morning, when members of the school committee and many parents were present. Messrs. Lonsdale and Masters, accompanied by Mr. Hogg (agricultural inspector), judged the animals, after which each gentleman gave an interesting little talk on the subject. Mrs. Blackie was called upon to present the winning ribbons in the pet lamb section. Results:—Dorothy Blackie’s Topsy 1. Ngaerp. Fitzgerald’s Binkic 2, Sandiford’s Peggy and Bryce

Balslcy’s Sammy 3 tie. The school committee also presented a prize to the winner, Dorothy Blackie. Tn the calf-rearing seciion Sylvia Holloway’s Pet came 1 with 86 points, which makes her eligible for the competition to be held at Marton in February. Frances Clifton’s Beulah took second place, while Rose Hurley’s Augustine, Ethne Clifton's Pixie and Betty Watson's Daisy Bell lied for third place. SOCIAL NEWS Airs. H.
