SWIMMING
AT WHANGAREI VISITORS' GOOD DISPLAYS. There, was a large attendance at the Whangarei Swimming Baths on Frida} evening when a special carnival wa held by tho Whangarei Club, at whic the visiting Australian lady swimmer! Miss Frances Bult and Miss Claire Den nis, competed. .Although she did not win any linaE Miss Bult gave a remarkable display of the crawl stroke. Her time of 41s for the third heat of the 66 2-3 yards mixed handicap was stated by Mrs. M. Chambers, the chapcorne accompanying the visiting swimmers, to be equal to the best, time Aliss Bult has ever recorded over that distance. In the final she was defeated, her time being not quite as good. There were too many finalists for comfortable swimming. In the Gt? 2-3 yards ladies’ race Miss Bult conceded .15s, which was an impossible In the 66 2-3 yards breaststroke handicap, Aliss Dennis, the lady champion of the world, conceded handicaps up to 1.45, and won comfortably by two lengths in 51 1-ss. She has a delightfully easy style. At the conclusion of the carnival both the visitors gave an exhibition of various swimming strokes and turns, Aliss Bult being an adept at. the latter, for which she uses the Japanese style.
